OBERLIN, OH – The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team received double-digit scoring from five different players, storming to a 74-60 road win against Oberlin College in its non-conference finale at the Philips Physical Education Center on Sunday, January 2.

Case improved to 4-7 overall with their second win in three games, while Oberlin dropped to 1-11 for the season.

Senior wing Reid Anderson (Avon Lake, OH/St. Edward) led the Spartans with a 16-point effort, while sophomore Austin Fowler (Farmington Hills, MI/Brother Rice) added 15 points and eight rebounds to go with five assists. Freshman David Thompson (Plano, TX/Plano Senior) had career-highs of 13 points, eight boards and three blocks and classmate Tim Chung (Cypress, CA/Los Alamitos) chipped in with 11 points. Additionally, senior forward Alex Hildebrandt (Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) added a season-high 10 points as Case trailed just twice all afternoon against the Yeomen.

Oberlin was paced by Andrew Fox's game-high 20 points on a crisp 7-for-7 shooting day.

The Yeomen scored first and jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first two minutes, but freshman Mike Byrne (Newton, PA/Holy Ghost) tied the game at five apiece with a triple at the 16:43 mark. Oberlin regained the lead briefly with 13:55 to play in the first half on a Geoff Simpson layup, but Fowler hit a three just over a minute later to give Case the lead back for good.

The Spartans rolled into halftime with a four point lead, 33-29, and the contest remained close until about midway through the second half. Case began to pull away with a 10-point run over the next six minutes, punctuated by a Hildebrandt lay-in at the 10:16 mark to stretch the Spartans' lead to 15 points.

A Fowler free throw with 56 seconds remaining resulted in a game-high lead of 18 for Case before the buzzer sounded with the final score standing at 74-60.

Case will play next on Saturday, January 8, opening up University Athletic Association play against Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
