Fels Leads Trinity Men's Basketball To Makofski Tournament Triumph Against Mass.-Dartmouth

Schenectady, NY -- Senior guard Ian Fels (Miami, Fla.) scored a game high 20 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 76-68 victory over the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Corsairs in the first game of the Sig Makofski Men's Basketball Tournament at Union College's Viniar Athletic Center this evening.  The Bantams improve to 7-4 with their second victory in a row and will play in tomorrow night's championship game at 8 p.m. against the host Union College Dutchmen who defeated No. 20-ranked Ramapo, 97-88, in the secpnd game tonight.  The Corsairs drop to 4-6 and will play Ramapo in the consolation contest tomorrow at 6 p.m.

Trinity sophomore guard Cameron Sutton (Queens, N.Y.) scored 14 points, making six of his seven shots for Trinity, while classmate Mick DiStasio (Cheverus, Maine) added 12 points.  The Bantams forced 22 turnovers.  Four starters hit for double figures for Mass.-Dartmouth, as Colin Burns had 17 points with seven boards and Justin Pulver pulled down a game best 11 rebounds with his 14 points. Brandon Stephens scored 14 points with four assists and Paul Rose had 13 points.

Trinity held a three point lead at the half, 37-34, with the bench outscoring the opponent, 12-3. Stephens tied the game with 17:15 left in the second and Mass.-Dartmouth got up by as many as six (53-47 with 10:36 left), but Trinity went on a 9-3 run to tie it in the next 3:19 at 56-56, and took the lead for good at 5:16 on a layup by freshman forward Eric Dean (Gilford, Vt.). Trinity led by as many as nine at 74-65 with 29 seconds left.
