NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Wesley College's Paul Reynolds (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) had 17 points and 17 rebounds, but it was not enough as Christopher Newport bested the Wolverines 79-70 in the championship game of the Holiday Inn Captains Shootout.

The Captains (7-4) led wire to wire behind 28 points and 11 rebounds by Tra Benfield.  The Wolverines (5-5) shot just 32 percent on the night, but stayed in the game by committing just seven turnovers.

Christopher Newport shot just 43 percent in the game, but that proved to be enough as nearly every other statistical category came out virtually even on the night.

Reynolds, who also had a block and three steals in the game, led four Wesley players in double figures.  Darrell Johnson (New Castle, Del./Howard) and Chris Douglas (Landover, Md./Jericho Prep Academy) scored 15 apiece, while Rudy Thomas (Milton, Del./Sussex Tech) scored 13 points on the night.

Conley Taylor poured in 21 points for Christopher Newport on the night.  Mike Green added 16 points, while Paul Meredith dished out 10 assists.

Reynolds was named all-tournament after game, along with Green and Taylor, the tournament MVP.

Wesley will look to rebound against Ithaca in the first round of the Sponaugle Tournament at Franklin & Marshall on January 2.
