UW-Stevens Point wins opening game of D3hoops.com Classic

No. 4 UW-Stevens Point rallied from an eight-point deficit in the first half and a six-point deficit in the second half to pull away from No. 20 Ramapo for an 85-74 win.

Tyler Tillema scored 11 of his 16 points off the bench in the second half to help the Pointers (6-2) get back in the win column after a loss at No. 7 St. Thomas last Wednesday night.

Ramapo (8-2) took a 45-39 lead in the second half as Elgin Brown converted a traditional three-point play. But UW-Stevens Point scored 10 of the next 12 points, including back-to-back 18-footers by Jordan Brezinski. The teams traded the lead back and forth until the Pointers broke the game open with a 10-1 run and cruised to the win.

The Pointers overcame 30 points from Ramapo top scorer Ahmad Hassan, including 12-for-15 shooting from the foul line. Jerrel Harris led the Pointers with 22 points and four steals, overcoming eight turnovers, while Louis Hurd added 13 and Scott Hoelzel 10. UW-Stevens Point shot just 3-for-19 from three-point range in the win.
