Eagles Shoot Sky High To Beat Boxers

More news about: Pacific

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Pacific could not find an answer for a very potent Northwest scoring attack Wednesday night as the Eagles shot 60 percent from the field for the game to beat the Boxers 101-74 in men's basketball action at the Northwest Pavilion.

The Eagles (11-2), ranked No. 11 in the latest NAIA Division II national poll, shot 33 of 55 from the field, 11 of 26 from three-point range and 24 of 29 from the free throw line.  They shot a very impressive 69.6 percent in the second half (16-23), giving the Boxers (2-8) no chance of any kind of comeback.

Carson Bartlett (Jr., St. Helens, Ore.) led four Pacific players in double figures with 15 points as the Boxers shot 37.8 from the field (28-74) and 7 of 20 from long range.  Adam McElwee (So., Woodinville, Wash.) added 14 points, Andrew Beatty (Jr., Lynnwood, Wash.) scored 12 and LeMar Anglin (Sr., Chicago, Ill.) had 11.

Daley Landon led six Northwest players in double figures with 22 points.  Ahmaad Cook scored 13 points while Tyson Christie and Greg Peters each had 12 points.  Tyler Mendezona scored 11 and Greg George finished with 10.

Northwest was hot from the start, jumping out to a 12-3 lead on Greg Peters' lay-up 5:30 into the contest.  The Boxers scored the next 10 points, coming to within 12-10 on Anglin's jumper at the 12:16 mark.  The Eagles turned right back around, building the advantage back up to 11 points just a minute and a half later on Cook's lay-in.

Cook capitalized on a pair of free throws at the 8:05 mark to make the Eagles' lead 32-15.  The Boxers managed to come back to within nine on a McElwee three-pointer with 5:44 to go, but George hit a lay-in to open up an 18-6 run to close out the half.  The Eagles went up 23 on Landon's three-pointer with 1:47 to go and went into halftime with a 50-29 lead.

Pacific opened the second half by slowly chipping away at the lead, coming within 13 points on a Bartlett fastbreak lay-in five minutes in.  That was as close as the Boxers would get as the Eagles boosted the lead back to 23 points, 67-44, on Tyson Christie's lay-in with 12 minutes to go.  The lead never dropped below 17 points the rest of the way and the Eagles built their largest lead of 28 points with 6:32 to go.

The Boxers will now take a long break over the Christmas holiday.  They return to action on Tues., Jan. 4, when they play at Northwest Christian.
