Brooklyn Falls to Old Westbury, 93-76

Old Westbury, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team dropped a non-conference game to the Panthers of the SUNY College at Old Westbury by a score of 93-76 earlier tonight at the Clark Athletic Center in Old Westbury, NY. With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 3-4 overall on the season, while the Panthers improve to 2-3 on the year.

Old Westbury controlled much of the first half shooting 46.5% (20-for-43) from the field en route to heading into the locker room with a 47-30 halftime lead. Up by six, 30-24, at the 5:50 mark in the opening stanza, the Panthers used a 7-0 run to push their advantage to 13, 37-24, with 2:43 left in the half. Old Westbury would maintain its double digit lead for the rest of the half, going into the break with a 17-point advantage.

Brooklyn would be unable to recover from its first half deficit, as the Panthers and Bulldogs played an even second half, with both teams scoring 46 points apiece. For the game, Brooklyn shot 35.7% (25-for-70) from the field, including 20.0% (5-for-25) from beyond the arc and 70.0% (21-for-30) from the charity stripe. Old Westbury finished the game shooting 48.0% (36-for-75) from the field, 60.0% (6-for-10) from three and 71.4% (15-for-21) from the free throw line.

The outcome of the game was ultimately determined in the battle of the glass, as Old Westbury held the rebounding edge, 57-33, which led to 25 second chance points for the Panthers. Old Westbury also outscored Brooklyn 54-38 in the paint.

The Bulldogs had four starters score in double figures led by junior Amil John (Brooklyn, NY/South Shore), who finished with a team-high 24 points, going along with three assists and three steals. Senior Ahmad Hemingway (Brooklyn, NY/Curtis) recorded a double-double with 15 points and a team-best 12 rebounds, while also contributing with six steals and a pair of blocks. Classmate Darnell Cudjoe (Brooklyn, NY/Murray Bergtraum) chipped in with 13 points and six rebounds, while junior Tyshawn Russell (Jamaica, NY/Holy Cross) netted 11 points.

For the Panthers, Frantz Granjean led all scorers with a game-high 30 points coming off the bench, to go along with 12 rebounds for the double-double. Lester Prosper also recorded a double-double with 18 points and a game-best 14 rebounds. Jamal Little and Tyquan Moore were also in double figure scoring with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Hilton Sneed chipped in with 10 caroms, while Craig Wilson dished out a game-high seven assists.

Brooklyn returns to action this weekend, when the Bulldogs will travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA to take part in the PNC/Ramada Inn Classic hosted by King's College. Brooklyn will open up against Salisbury University on Friday, December 10th at 6:00 pm and will take on either host King's College or SUNY-Potsdam on the second day, Saturday, December 11th at either 1:00 pm or 3:00 pm.
