MADISON, Wis. – Fans that came to the Edgedome on Saturday certainly got their money's worth. The Edgewood College men's basketball never led in the entire second half, but hung around long enough for Kent Faurote to tie the game at the buzzer at the end of regulation. Eagle fans then watched as Concordia University Chicago's Mike Lichtenheld matched Faurote's heroics at the first overtime buzzer. Eventually, the Eagles jumped ahead and iced the game at the free throw line, for an exhausting 80-68 double overtime victory.

With 3:42 left in the contest, the Cougars' Lichtenheld nailed a three-point basket to give Concordia Chicago a 48-43 lead. Faurote answered with his first bucket of the game when he connected on a jump shot from the corner and got fouled. He converted the three-point play to pull the Eagles within two. After a Cougar hoop, Derek Nkemnji converted a three-point play to make the score 50-49 Concordia Chicago with 2:38 left in regulation.

Al Kahlfeldt put the Cougars (4-3, 1-3 NAC) up by four with just over a minute left when he drained a three-point basket, but the Eagles had an answer. Ben Wisniewski made a layup with 43 seconds left to pull the Eagles (4-3, 2-0 NAC) within two before getting a stop on the defensive end. The Cougars took a timeout with three seconds left, and out of the timeout, the Eagles fed the ball to Faurote. He took a pass on the block, made a spin move and laid the ball in as time expired to send the game to overtime.

In the first overtime, Concordia Chicago jumped out to a quick five point lead behind a three-point basket by Jeff Weberg and a pair of free throws by Justin Hineman. The Eagles began to chip away and got within a point at 58-57 when Tony Cates made a free throw. After a stop, Cashton Craig gave the Eagles their first lead since the 11:55 mark of the first half when the Eagles led 11-10. Craig drove off the left side, made a layup and got fouled and completed the three-point play to give the Eagles a 60-59 lead with nine seconds left.

Jake Guziewski stole the ensuing inbounds pass and got fouled. However, he only made one of two free throws to give the Cougars a chance to tie the game after a timeout with five seconds left. Concordia Chicago went the length of the court and Lichtenheld made a 16 foot jump shot as time expired to tie the game a 61 and send the game to another overtime.

Cates gave the Eagles an early lead in the second overtime with a layup and the Eagles scored the next five points to take a 68-61 lead with 3:28 left. Craig essentially sealed the game when he drilled a three-point basket at the shot clock buzzer with 2:18 left to put the Eagles up 71-62. From that point on, the Eagles shot all free throws, going 9-for-12 over the final 1:50 of the game to seal the 80-68 victory.

In the first half, there were five ties and seven lead changes. After Wisniewski hit a jump shot to tie the game at 19 with 5:02 left, the Cougars went on run to end the half. Concordia Chicago answered with a three-point basket and scored nine of the final 12 points of the half to take a 28-22 halftime lead.

Craig led the Eagles with a career-high 19 points while going 5-for-5 from the free throw line and scoring 10 points in overtime. Wisniewski was not far being with 18 points and Nkemnji was the final Eagle in double figures with 11 points. Deontay Young and Weberg tallied 15 points apiece to lead the Cougars.

The contest was the first double overtime game Edgewood College has played since the 2001-02 season when the Eagles topped Ripon College. It's also only the fourth double overtime game in Edgewood College history, according to available records.
