MEDFORD - The Tufts University men's basketball team earned major revenge for a heart-breaking loss to Lesley University last season by mauling the Lynx, 86-39, in a non-conference game at Cousens Gym on Tuesday night. The 39 points allowed by the Jumbos is the fewest by the program since the 1957-58 team gave up 36 to Wesleyan 53 years ago.

All 13 Jumbos scored in tonight's game, led by 18 from sophomore Scott Anderson (Sudbury, MA). Tufts improved to 2-1. Lesley, who was paced by 11 points from junior John Sanchez (Carson, CA), dropped to 1-4.

Last year, Lesley hit a game-winning three-point shot with 14 seconds remaining to earn a 57-55 victory over the Jumbos. Tonight, there was no drama as Tufts built a 22-point halftime lead and cruised to a 47-point win. The margin of victory is the largest by the Jumbos since the 1994-95 NCAA Tournament team defeated Endicott 91-44 on December 11, 1995.

A three-pointer by Thorton Paul (Boston, MA) at 18:07 of the first half gave the Lynx their last lead of the game, 5-3. Tufts scored the next 13 points, eight by Anderson, and led 16-5 with 13:19 to go until the half. Lesley was within 18-9 after a Jesus Trejo (Methuen, MA) lay-up at 12:09, and at 5:38 the Jumbo lead was only 10 (23-13) after a pair of free throws by Lesley's Sanchez. However, Tufts went on a 13-1 run to close the half with a 36-14 lead, with Anderson's 14 points and seven rebounds leading the way at the break.

The margin broke 30 early in the second half (47-16) on an Anderson lay-up. It surpassed 40 (61-20) for the first time on a three-pointer by Andrew Dowton (Canton, MA) at 10:54. The 47-point final margin was the largest of the game.

Sophomore Alex Goldfarb (New York, NY) with 13 points was the only other Jumbo to score in double-figures. Dowton and freshman Tom Folliard (Richmond, VA) added nine points apiece, while senior Sam Mason (York, ME) finished with eight points, five rebounds and four assists. Junior James Long (Norwell, MA) had seven rebounds as Tufts earned a 45-36 advantage on the boards.

Trejo (nine points) finished with a game-high 12 rebounds for Lesley, which shot just 27.7 percent (13/47) and turned the ball over 23 times. Paul had eight points and three steals for the Lynx.

Tufts, who started a six-games-in-10-days stretch tonight, plays at Keene State College on Thursday at 7:30 pm. Lesley hosts Curry College on Thursday.
