Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's men's basketball team defeated visiting Rutgers-Camden 47-46 on Sunday to earn its first win of the season.  Senior guard Stephen Simoneau knocked down a pair of free throws with less than one second on the clock to seal the victory for the Saints.

Drawing a foul on the final shot of the game, Simoneau went to the line staring down a one point deficit and .2 seconds on the game clock.  After converting the first free throw to force at least overtime, the Scarlet Raptors called a timeout in an attempt to ice the senior.  Showing poise, Simoneau knocked down the second shot to seal the win as Jonathan DeLao intercepted the ensuing inbounds pass as the buzzer sounded.

Simoneau and DeLao both scored a game-high 11 points, each hitting three three-pointers and a pair of free throws, while Reed Scott added 10.

Trading leads to open the game, the Saints (1-4) took an early 6-4 lead on a Simoneau trifecta which they held the rest of the half.  Marymount would lead by as many as 11 with 3:39 to play before Rutgers-Camden battled back on a 10-2 run to close out the frame and cut the MU lead to 28-25 going into the break.

Taking momentum into the second half, Rutgers-Camden held the Saints scoreless for the first five minutes of the stanza to take a 33-28 lead before another Simoneau three put MU on the board at the 14:43 mark.  The Scarlet Raptors couldn't make it any more than a two possession game the rest of the way, allowing Marymount to claw back and pull within one on a triple by Aaron Walsh with one minute to play.

A strong defensive stand in the final minute forced a RUC turnover with 28 seconds remaining to allow the Saints one last chance.  Taking a pass at the top of the key with the clock winding down, Simoneau attempted to drive through the paint before being fouled and going to the charity stripe with the game on the line.

Marymount returns to action on Wednesday at Frostburg State in Capital Athletic Conference action.
