WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Mary Washington rallied from a six-point deficit in the final 101 seconds Sunday afternoon to down Shenandoah University 83-72 in non-conference men's basketball action.

The Eagles (3-2) did not take their first lead until JR Gray hit two free throws 18 seconds into overtime, but did not trail again against Shenandoah (1-5).

The Hornets, who led by as many as 13 points in the contest and held a two-point advantage until one second remained in regulation, committed a season-high 33 turnovers in the loss.

UMW had 18 steals off of those 33 miscues and the scored 35 points off of them.

The Eagles gradually ate into Shenandoah's lead with constant pressure; SU had 10 turnovers at halftime but coughed it up 17 times in the second stanza.

Still, the Hornets appeared to be in total control following an Avery Green runner in the lane gave the hosts a 57-50 lead with just over five minutes remaining.

Unfortunately for the Shingleton Gymnasium faithful, UMW scored 11 of the game's next 15 points to bring the game back to level for the first time all contest.

(Shenandoah actually started the game with a 1-0 lead - Mary Washington was accessed an administrative technical for dunking in pre-game warmups and Brandon Bryan made one of two from the line prior to the opening tip.)

After the Eagles tied it on a Tad Dickman layup with 59 seconds remaining, Shenandoah re-took the lead when Dominic Chappell buried an 20-foot, 5-five inch jumper from in front of the Hornets to take a 68-66 lead with 21 seconds remaining.

A pair of timeouts in the UMW frontcourt ensued, and the Eagles drew a foul underneath with 1.8 seconds remaining to give themselves a chance to tie from the line.

Matt Boward knocked both of his shots down, and SU was unable to get more than a 3/4 court shot on the in-bounds play.

Gray's free throws started a 13-2 Mary Washington run in overtime, clinching the contest in the process.

Kevin Kline paced the hosts with 20 points while Bryan had 16 and Mitch Dudley 14 with 14 rebounds.

EJ Willis, one of four UMW players in double figures, had 14 points off the bench.

Shenandoah is back in action on Wednesday at NAIA Southern Virginia.
