Gwynedd-Mercy Gets Career-High From Crabtree In Win Over Arcadia

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy was firing on all cylinders Tuesday night posting a 90-67 non-league win over Arcadia at the Griffin Complex.

Senior Jon Crabtree registered a career-high 23 points as the Griffins used a 20-0 run midway in the first half to pull away from a five-point lead.

Sophomore Frank Champion also netted a career-best in points, scoring 19 while pulling down nine rebounds and blocking two shots.

Gwynedd (2-1) jumped ahead early and quickly, racing out to a 15-3 lead before the Knights' Damian Palantino sunk a pair of three-pointers and later a Jose Ortiz jumper pulled Arcadia to 17-12 with just over 13 minutes in the stanza.

Champion and sophomore Doug Berzins helped kickstart the scoring spree over the next six minutes, as the Griffins led by as much as 42-17 with 3:08 remaining in the period.

GM led 51-24 at halftime after shooting 72.7% (24-of-33) in the frame.

It was more of the same in the second, as Gwynedd had their biggest lead, 73-40, with 12 minutes left in the game.

Ortiz and Palantino led Arcadia (2-3) with 15 points apiece. Ortiz added six boards while Palantino drained four of the team's five three-pointers.

Freshman Brandyn Wims chipped in 13 while junior Dan Delconte added 10.

Gwynedd outrebounded AU, 46-22, while shooting over 65% for the contest.

The Griffins are off until Monday when they open CSAC play at Rosemont in an 8 p.m. tipoff.
