Bison finish as runners up at the Scotty Wood Tournament

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team faced a stern task on Saturday night against Muhlenberg College in the Scotty Wood tournament championship game. The Bison dropped its first game of the 2010-11 season as the host Mules won 80-51 at Memorial Hall before a crowd of 434. GU (1-1) finished the two-day tournament as the runners up.

GU junior guard Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) and junior forward Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) were selected to the all-tournament team for the Bison. Tatum led the Bison in the loss with 10 points, five rebounds and added two assists. Seeber was held to five points, three rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists after his 24-point performance the day before.

Muhlenberg (3-0) led from start to finish and were paced by tournament Most Valuable Player Spencer Liddic who netted a game-high 32 points and added 14 rebounds in 25 minutes of action. In addition to Liddic the Mules had two other players make the all-tournament team in Evan Tozer and Austin Curry.

The Bison trailed 38-23 at halftime as the Buff and Blue only made 9-of-34 shots from the field in the first 20 minutes of play. Gallaudet was better in the second half as it finished the game with a 30.6 shooting percentage.

Muhlenberg on the other hand couldn't miss in the second half as the Mules made 16-of-25 shots (64 percent) as they outscored the Bison 42-28 in the final 20 minutes of play. The Mules also outrebounded the Bison 49-26.

Sophomore guard Joshua Sisco (Spartanburg, S.C.) added nine points and five rebounds while junior Brandon McMillan (Frederick, Md.) added eight points in the loss.

Gallaudet will open its home schedule on Monday, November 22, against non-conference foe Christendom College with an 8 p.m. scheduled tip.
