Complete team effort help Bison to 37-point win

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The excitement had been building for weeks and on Monday night the Gallaudet University men's basketball team delivered a impressive 37-point win over Christendom College in the 2010-11 home opener at the Field House before a crowd of 350. GU coach Jeb Barber saw 13 of his players score at least two points each as 14 Bison saw action in the first home game of the season.

Four different Bison finished the game in double figures led by junior forward Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) who scored 16 points and added a game-high six assists. Junior guard Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) had a solid game on both ends of the court as he netted 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds (six of which were defensive boards), made six steals and passed out four assists. His rebound and steal totals were game-high marks. Fellow junior guard Brandon McMillan (Frederick, Md.) added 12 points to go with four rebounds and two assists and steals while sophomore guard Joshua Sisco (Spartanburg, S.C.) chipped in 11 points.

GU (2-1) led from start to finish as the Bison jumped out to a quick 10-point lead just under four minutes in. The Bison added to their lead and took a 48-27 lead into the break. Right before the half, Christendom's Tim McPhee (14 points) heaved a 3-pointer, close to mid-court that found the bottom of the net for the Crusaders (3-6).

In the second half, GU put the game away midway through the half as it led by more than 30 points over the course of the final 11 minutes of play. The Bison outscored the Crusaders 46-30 in the final 20 minutes of play.

Gallaudet received eight points apiece from sophomore forward Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio) and senior guard Luther Weedon (Walkersville, Md.) off the bench. Kelly grabbed six rebounds while Weedon drained two 3-point shots. The Bison bench scored 35 points in the game, 27 came in the second half.

Matt Rensch who scored a team-high 17 points to go with five rebounds paced Christendom. Brendan Krebs scored 15 points off the bench for the Crusaders.

The Bison will next host their annual GU Holiday Tournament that will begin on Saturday, November 27, with the first game scheduled to tip at 2 p.m. GU will host Maryland Bible at 8 p.m. on Saturday with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship game at 6 p.m.
