ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Wesley's Chris Douglas (Landover, Md./Jericho Prep Academy) scored a career-high 22 points, but it was not enough as No. 12 Virginia Wesleyan captured a 96-80 win over the Wolverines at the Roger Taylor Invitational.

Douglas paced five Wesley (1-1) players in double figures, but the Wolverines received just two points from its bench in the game.  The point guard hit 8-of-13 field goals and added four steals.  Rudy Thomas (Milton, Del./Sussex Tech) had 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Paul Reynolds (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) netted 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and Kyan Andrews (Seaford, Del./Woodbridge) added 11 points and seven boards before both players fouled out.  Darrell Johnson (New Castle, Del./Howard) used an 8-for-8 effort from the free throw line to score 12 points.

Douglas and Reynolds combined for 11 points as Wesley opened the game with a 17-3 run in the first six minutes of play.  Virginia Wesleyan (3-0) whittled that lead away and a three by sixth man Ed Roberts gave the Marlins a 30-28 lead with 5:19 to go in the half.  The two teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the half before a three by DJ Woodmore with eight seconds left gave Virginia Wesleyan a 45-41 haltime lead.

The Marlins hit four three in the first five minutes of the second half to build a 63-49 lead and Wesley never trailed by fewer than nine the rest of the way.

Chris Teasley hit 7-of-12 field goals on his way to 20 points.  He also grabbed eight rebounds and had five assists.  Donald Vaughn recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds to go along with six blocks and five steals.  Chris Astorga netted 17 points, while Roberts and Woodmore added 16 apiece.

The Marlins hit 51 percent of their field goals, including 13-of-28 from three point range.

Wesley will look to get back into the win column when the square off with the tournament hosts, North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday, November 20.
