Greenville and Hendrix split results in men’s and women’s hoops

GREENVILLE, Ill. (Nov. 19) -- The Hendrix College men's and women's basketball teams traveled to Greenville College for their opening games of the 2010 Tip-Off Classic on Friday afternoon at H.J. Long Gymnasium.  The men came away with a 91-83 victory, while the women suffered a 63-61 set back.

Both teams now stand at 1-1 on the season. The women will tip off at 11 a.m. Saturday against Westminster College and the men will wrap up the road trip at 3 p.m. against Westminster.

Junior guard Chris Goodman led the Warriors with 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting from behind the arc, while junior guard Ammon Martin added 16 points to the mix.  Junior forward Nick Heathscott and sophomore guard Jaren Riley tallied 11 points apiece.

Senior guard James Ewing scored nine points and two assists off the bench.  First year forward John Zimmerman crashed the glass with a team-high seven rebounds.  Heathscott and junior forward Scott Sherrill pulled down five rebounds each.

The women were led by senior forward Christina Byler with 16 points, while junior guard Samantha Devlin scored 14 points and a team-best seven rebounds.  First year forward Jamie Tate added eight points and junior guard Katy Ashley-Pauley led the way with four assists.
