Houghton women's basketball head coach Alicia Mucher has announced she is stepping away from the program after eight seasons at the helm.

Mucher, a 2003 Houghton graduate and former Highlander standout, stepped into the role prior to the 2012-13 season and guided the program to a 73-129 overall record, including five double-digit win seasons. Her tenure was highlighted by a 13-13 record and a spot in the Empire 8 tournament during the 2017-18 season.

The Highlanders slipped to 6-19 this past season.

"Coach Mucher has played an integral leadership role in our department and will be difficult to replace. She has poured her heart and soul into the department as a mentor to our student-athletes and to many of our young coaches. She will be sorely missed," said athletic director Matthew Webb.

Houghton has started the search for the program's 11th head coach in its 51-year history.
