When the Heidelberg women's basketball team takes the floor next winter, the leadership will have a different look. On Friday, Morgan Harrigan announced to her team that she has taken a new role at Heidelberg. Beginning on Monday, Harrigan -- who just completed her seventh season at the helm of the program -- will transition over to a role as the Director of Academic Support in Heidelberg's Owen Center for Teaching & Learning.

The Student Princes went 8-18 this past season, after going 9-16 the previous year. All told, the program won 63 games and lost 119 over the past seven seasons.

"The decision to make this move across campus was incredibly difficult, but is the right one for my family," said Harrigan, a 2009 'Berg graduate. "My passion for the Heidelberg women's basketball program still burns white-hot, but I am really excited to take on this new challenge."

Harrigan's move follows the January announcement that assistant women's basketball coach and head men's golf coach Shaun Gunnell accepted a new position at Heidelberg. Starting soon, Gunnell will serve as the Coordinator of Multicultural Student Affairs on campus.

"I think Morgan and Shaun are tremendous leaders and I am happy that they now have an opportunity to make a larger impact on the entire Heidelberg community," said athletic director Matt Palm. "I will miss their day-to-day contributions in our office, but it's definitely a win for Heidelberg."

As a result of the changes, the search for the new leadership group for the women's basketball program will begin immediately.
