Aubrey Shelton spent the past 11 seasons as the head coach at Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Wash.

Aubrey Shelton, who had a successful playing career at Puget Sound and a successful coaching career at a nearby high school, will be the next head coach for the Loggers' men's basketball program.

UPS athletic director Amy Hackett announced the move on May 18. 

"We are thrilled to have Aubrey return to Puget Sound. He has consistently achieved a high level of success over his 11 years as a head coach at Lincoln High School, averaging more than 21 wins per season, and we look forward to having that championship mindset continue at Puget Sound," said Hackett in the school's release.

Shelton was a four-year letter winner for the Loggers from 2001 through 2005 and contributor on two NWC title teams in 2004 and 2005. Shelton was named all-conference as a freshman foward in 2002. After graduating, he joined Eric Bridgeland's staff at Puget Sound and was a part of the 2006 team that reached the NCAA Tournament sectional final. Shelton spent the last 11 seasons as the head coach at nearby Lincoln High School where he went 253-37 and won six district titles. 

"I'm extremely honored, grateful, and excited to return home to Puget Sound.  My time as a Logger student-athlete had an immeasurable positive impact on my life," said Shelton in the release. "Together, we can build a basketball program that will make the Logger and Tacoma community proud. I can't wait to begin."

Shelton replaces Justin Lunt who left UPS in April for the head coaching job at NWC rival Pacific. Lunt went 180-129 in 12 seasons with the Loggers.

Puget Sound finished 18-7, 11-5 in the NWC last season.
