Caltech replaces women's coach

Caltech named Bridgette Reyes its new head women's basketball coach, replacing Sandra Marbut. Reyes played and coached Division I basketball.

Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation Betsy Mitchell announced the move in a release.

"We are eager to welcome Bridgette to our team. She brings a positive, caring attitude for her scholar-athletes and boasts an extensive basketball background.  We are confident she and women's basketball will continue our department's upward trajectory."

Reyes spent last season as an assistant coach at Division I Loyola Marymount University on Charity Elliott's staff. Before that Reyes was the head coach at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, Calif. for three seasons.

Reyes played one season at Division I Boise State University and then transferred to Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, Calif. where she was NAIA Co-National Player of the Year and a national champion.

"I am extremely honored and excited to become a part of the Caltech team," Reyes said in the school's release.  "I believe my passion and experience will complement Caltech's mission to achieve excellence on and off the court, while positively impacting our scholar-athletes. Together, we will continue to build and elevate the Caltech Women's Basketball program."

Reyes replaces Sandra Marbut who went 27-321 in 14 seasons with the Beavers. According to the NCAA's records, Caltech women's basketball has a 43-392 record since 1999-01 and has only won more than five games in a season twice, once under Marbut in 2009-10.

Caltech finished 4-21, 2-14 in the SCIAC last season.
