Fischer, Juckem

Brad Fischer and Patrick Juckem have been named head coaches of women's and men's basketball at UW-Oshkosh, the school said in separate announcemets over the past week.

Fischer replaces Terri Schumacher, who stepped down in March after guiding the Titans the past seven seasons.  Fischer’s selection follows a national search of nearly three months.

Fischer spent five seasons as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Division II UW-Parkside. He also has experience coaching in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, assisting with the UW-La Crosse women’s basketball team from 2003-06.

Under Fischer and head coach Jenny Kenesie, UW-Parkside improved its record each of his five years with the program. That run culminated with records of 24-7 in 2011 and 23-8 in 2010, the two best victory totals in school history. Last year, Fischer served as UW-Parkside’s assistant athletic director for communications.

He takes over a team that went 7-18 this past season, 1-15 in the WIAC.

Juckem's hiring follows Ted Van Dellen’s retirement from the position in March.

For the past seven years, Juckem was the head men’s basketball coach at Coe, leading the Kohawks to an overall record of 105-79 (.571). Coe won the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship during both the 2006 and 2012 seasons.

“I'm truly honored and humbled to be chosen to lead the UW-Oshkosh men's basketball program,” Juckem said. “There are very few Division III jobs for which I would have considered leaving Coe College. The combination of strong academics, successful athletics and a nationally renowned conference made this opportunity a perfect fit.”

Juckem’s 105 coaching victories rank second in the 112-year history of Coe College men’s basketball. Last season, the Kohawks totaled a 19-8 record and advanced to the championship contest of the IIAC Tournament. Juckem guided Coe to a 20-7 record in 2006, when the Kohawks captured their first league title in 30 years. He was voted the IIAC Coach of the Year in both 2006 and 2012.

He takes over a team that was 4-21 this past season, 0-16 in the conference.
