Salisbury has announced the hiring of Kelly Lewandowski as women's basketball coach. Lewandowski replaces Charisse Mapp, who resigned in May after compiling a 39-63 record in four seasons.

"We are very pleased to hire Kelly Lewandowski to our staff. She was a talented student-athlete and has made an easy transition to the coaching profession over the last several years," said athletic director Michael Vienna. "We feel very fortunate to have been able to attract Kelly to lead our women's basketball program as she is a rising star in the coaching profession."

Lewandowski has spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Gettysburg, with the program posting a 57-23 record (.713) during that span. The team's best performance came during the 2009-10 campaign, as Gettysburg collected 24 victories and advanced to the Division III Sweet Sixteen.

Prior to her stint at Gettysburg she spent the 2007-08 as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Scranton. Lewandowski helped guide the Royals to a conference championship and an appearance in the NCAA tournament.

The Willow Grove, Pa., native was a four-year letterwinner at Scranton from 2002-06. Lewandowski appeared in 122 career games for the Royals and scored more than 500 points, pulled down nearly 400 rebounds, handed out nearly 200 assists and collected over 150 steals. The Royals made four consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament, including back-to-back appearances in the Final Four (2005, 2006). Additionally, she was a three-time member of the Middle Atlantic Conference Academic Honor Roll and spent two seasons as a member of Scranton's women's lacrosse team.

"This has been a dream of mine for a long time to have my own program and be a head coach," said Lewandowski. "Not only is it exciting to become a head coach, but for the opportunity to come at a program as successful as Salisbury University is an honor."

Lewandowski graduated from Scranton with a psychology degree in 2006, before earning her master's degree in sports and recreation administration from Temple in 2008.
