For St. Mary's, reaching the Sweet 16 is becoming almost commonplace. For Cabrini, it's a welcome place. And for Marietta, it's a brand-new place.

All three teams clinched spots in the sectional semifinals of the Division III men's basketball tournament Saturday night.

The Seahawks rolled comfortably to a 68-53 win against Randolph-Macon behind 15 points from Sam Burum, 13 from Alex Franz and 12 from Christian MacAuley. Cabrini saw its season come back from the dustbin in rallying from a double-digit halftime deficit to defeat SUNY-Purchase. And Marietta finally got revenge for an NCAA Tournament game from 36 years ago, edging Wittenberg 63-62 in front of a raucous home crowd as Tyler Hammond hit a floater with six seconds left to lift the Pioneers

Wooster took a seven-point lead with under two minutes to go and had to hold on by its fingernails as Manchester scored the last five points and had a long 3-pointer go off the front rim at the buzzer to preserve Wooster's 47-45 win. Felix Friedt and Michael Taylor combined for 43 points to lead Whitworth to a 77-63 win over Chapman, setting up Whitworth and Marietta in the next round.

UW-Stevens Point jumped out to a 26-4 lead and cruised past Luther 76-56. The Pointers earn a rematch with St. Thomas, which got 24 points from Tyler Nicolai in defeating Illinois Wesleyan 78-70. After being held scoreless in the first half Friday night, Nicolai has scored 41 points in the 60 minutes since. Hope rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit behind 29 points from Will Bowser to take a lead at Augustana but missed two of four foul shots in the final minute. Brian DeSimone hit a 3-pointer for Augustana to tie the game with five seconds left and Augustana scored the first eight points of overtime and won 88-80.

Mason Choice scored 17 points to lift Rhode Island College to a 71-63 win at Oswego State, bouncing one of the two SUNYAC teams from the field. The other survived as Buffalo State defeated Johnson and Wales 96-72. Lamonte Thomas was held to 26 points while Glenroy Carr had 13 points and 16 rebounds for the Bengals.

Middlebury shrugged off its NCAA Tournament Saturday woes and rolled past Western Connecticut 79-53 to reach the Sweet 16. The Panthers will face Rochester, which defeated MIT 60-52.
