Fahey wins 400th game for Washington U.

PITTSBURGH – Coach Nancy Fahey captured her 400th career win and senior Laura Crowley had a career-high 32 points as the top-ranked Washington University women improved to 23-0 on the season with a 62-36 victory over Carnegie Mellon on Friday night at Skibo Gymnasium.

Fahey, who ranks 14th on the all-time Division III wins list, owns a 400-64 (.862) overall record in her 17 seasons at the helm of the Bear program. Her .862 winning percentage is also tops among active NCAA women's coaches.

"It's nice that a coach gets 400," said Fahey, "but in reality it's all the players and everybody that came before." Full interview with D3hoopsNet's Patrick Herward.

The win also marks the Bears' 54th consecutive regular season victory, 32nd University Athletic Association win in a row and the 20th consecutive victory against Carnegie Mellon.

Both teams were very sluggish early on as Washington U. held a 7-5 lead with 15:52 left after a 3-pointer by Crowley. Carnegie Mellon scored the next four points to take the 9-7 lead, but the Bears responded with a 9-2 run as Crowley nailed her second three of the half to put the Bears up 16-11. Washington U. scored five of the final seven points of the half as they took the 21-16 lead after one half of play.

The second half was all Crowley as she outscored the Tartans 26-20 by hitting eight 3-pointers. She opened the second half with back-to-back 3-pointers and then added consecutive 3s as the Bears started the half with a 20-2 run to take a commanding 41-18 lead. Crowley added four more 3-pointers in the half as she finished the game with 10 (in 14 attempts), setting the Washington University and University Athletic Association record.

Crowley was the only Bear in double figures. Senior Jennifer Rudis and junior Lesley Hawley had six points apiece. The Bears held the Tartans to a 26.9% (14-for-52) clip and forced 14 turnovers.
