Dave McHugh has been a part of the D3sports.com staff for over a decade. It began after he created the only talk show dedicated to Division III basketball, Hoopsville, in the fall of 2000. Hoopsville has been on the air nearly every year since and traveled to the men's championship weekend in Salem, Virginia each of the past 13 seasons while also traveling to the women's championship weekend in Holland, Michigan in 2013 and Atlanta, Georgia for the men's championship game during the Division I Final Four in 2013.

McHugh is a graduate of Goucher College with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Management. He became involved in Division III basketball in his first year at Goucher where he worked for the Sports Information Department while playing on the varsity soccer team. He also became the public address announcer for Goucher Athletics and is now in his 20th season as the "Voice of the Gophers."

As Broadcast Director for D3sports.com, McHugh is responsible for all broadcasts and consulting along with production work which includes Hoopsville, The #WhyD3 Show, D3sports broadcasts, the Gagliardi Trophy Dinner, and championship broadcasts for D3football and D3hoops. He is also a play-by-play & color commentator for D3sports.com having called many Division III national championship men's basketball games for D3hoops.com, the ESPN radio affiliate in Roanoke, Va., and Turner Broadcast/NCAA.com. Dave was also on the call for the triple-overtime Sweet 16 game between Guilford and Lincoln in 2007, in which Guilford's Ben Strong scored a NCAA record 59 points and proved to be Lincoln's last game in Division III.

McHugh also created The #WhyD3 Show in September of 2014. The show shines a light on student-athletes, coaches, teams, schools, etc. for what they are doing outside of competing. McHugh hosts both The #WhyD3 Show and Hoopsville programs while also doing all of the associated production work.

McHugh has started his own broadcasting, production, voice-over, and consulting company, "dmac Productions," in the Baltimore and Washington, DC region. Part of his work has included being the play-by-play voice for Stevenson football and high school games for Fairfax Sports Network in Fairfax County, Va. He was the play-by-play voice for Georgetown University football and lacrosse for four years with Verizon FiOS1 Sports. McHugh was also the color commentator for the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Weekend for Turner Broadcast and NCAA.com.

McHugh is also the Executive Director for the Hoopsville National Invitational Classic which is hosted by Stevenson University. The Hoopsville Classic was held for a third time November 21-23, 2014.

Dave, his wife Anne, son Andy, and daughter Mollie live outside Baltimore, where McHugh worked for the ABC affiliate (WMAR) as a news and sports producer for more than 11 years.
