Allegheny Women's Basketball Tops Titans for Fourth Straight Win

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's basketball team collected their fourth straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory as they defeated Westminster 62-52 Wednesday (Jan. 31).
 
In a fast paced opening quarter, a pair of threes by Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) and an additional six points from Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone) gave the Gators a 12-10 lead after 10 minutes.
 
After the Titans brought it within one, 14-13, the Gators went on a 14-6 run, with Sarah Santicola (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) and Bickart scoring six points apiece. Later on, a quick four points from Santicola and Kate Leach (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) put the Gators up 32-22. Westminster made up some ground late, but the Gators maintained a 32-26 halftime lead.
 
Bickart led the Gators with 14 points in the first half, hitting four-of-five three pointers. Santciola tallied eight points and seven rebounds while Lauer had six points. Allegheny owned a 28-23 advantage in rebounds.
 
Westminster tied the game at 34 in the third quarter. A Bickart three followed by a pair of free throws by Santicola gave the Gators a five point lead. In all, the Gators' run reached 10-4 as they led 46-40 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
Allegheny grew their lead to ten multiple times in the fourth quarter as their staunch defense led them to their fourth straight win.
 
Inside the Box

  • Bickart led the Gators with 23 points, her second straight 20 point performance. She also had nine rebounds, seven assists and a pair of steals.
  • Lauer ended the contest with 15 points and eight rebounds.
  • Santicola produced a double-double of 12 rebounds and 11 points. She also blocked four shots.
  • Leach finished with six points while Branygan Bianchin (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) had five.
  • Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) pulled in eight rebounds.
  • The Gators went 12-of-16 from the free throw line and had a 50-41 rebounding advantage.
  • Allegheny did not allow a three pointer for the first time this season.\

  • The win moves Allegheny to 11-9 overall and 10-5 in PAC play.
