Women's Basketball Hangs on Against Sewanee

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Women's Basketball wins four straight as they defeat the Tigers of Sewanee in a tight Sunday matchup, 55-52.

A five to nothing run started the game for the Vikings, all by Sylvia Kahoro.

After Kahoro's run, a back-and-forth affair played its role in the first quarter before the Tigers tied it at seven with under three minutes to go. Second leading scorer, Elly Callihan sparked a late 5-0 run with a three as she was on her way to another double-double.

Sunk free throws secured the lead for the Vikings heading into the second quarter at 16-10.

To start the second, there was a three minute drought until Kenadie Lee, the Vikings leading scorer with 18 on the day, made an and one and converted the free throw.

The Tigers cut it to two with two minutes until halftime (22-20) and produced an eight point turn around to capture the lead before heading to the locker room, 26-22.

Not ending the first half how they wanted, Berry now had to fight from behind. Lee opened with a three and cut the deficit to two, but Sewanee continued to hold them off at an arm's length.

Lauren Ellard finally was able to overcome the distance and tied the game with a clutch three with two minutes to go (34-34). However, the Tigers stole the lead right back.

Callihan had had enough and in the final minutes she closed out with four quick points to steal back their lead and create excitement! (40-38)

Lee and Callihan combined for the first eleven points of the Vikings in the final quarter. Starting off hot with two triples, things finally began to go the right way for Berry (46-39).

Sewanee refused to give up and brought the game back within a possession with a minute to go at 51-50 and followed with another basket to take a lead that would not be held on to for long with a Kahoro jumper with 16 seconds to play.

Now the Tigers were forced to foul in hopes of Berry not being able to convert but Ellard and Jeryn Jarrett sunk one each to secure the victory!

The Vikings final regular season game will be Wednesday, February 14 for senior night. Tip off is at 6:00 PM ET.
