Women's Basketball Takes Down Centre

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry Women's Basketball found a huge win over the second ranked team in the conference, Centre to tied their SAA record of 9-3 in hopes of staying alive to host the first round of the conference tournament.

The Vikings advanced to 15-8 overall with an eleven-point victory over the Colonels, 59-48.

The first five minutes of the game was all Berry with a 10-2 run led by Elly Callihan who had six of the ten, and leading scorer Sylvia Kahoro chipping in eight.

Sarah Wright's three really made their opponent start to search for answers at 13-3 with two minutes to go in the first, but the best they would be able to do is bring it within seven heading in to the second period (15-8).

Centre finally decided to show why they are ranked second in the conference and started the second with a 7-2 run to bring the game back within a possession (17-15). The Vikings still stood strong and held onto their lead until the clock hit four as a Colonels jumper tied it at 21.

The road team took their first lead with a three, but Kenadie Lee saved the day before halftime with what everyone thought was about to be a turnover turned into a buzzer three from the junior (24-24).

Both teams locked down defensively in the game with neither team climbing over 60-points and giving up 24 in the first half. Now it was time for Centre to hold the lead. They climbed to a seven-point advantage, but Karlee Armstrong four consecutive free-throws brought he game to a three-point deficit (33-30).

Free throws ended up being the saving grace for the Vikings as they made 16 compared to the Colonels 9. For the remainder of the third buckets were traded until Jeryn Jarrett and Kahoro closed out the quarter with triples to tie the game again, this time at 39.

Once the Vikings took control off a Kahoro jumper in the first thirty seconds of the fourth, Berry never gave up the lead. They held Centre to nine fourth quarter points and knocked down their free-throws while taking care of the basketball to clinch this important SAA win.

The Vikings will be back in action in The Cage on Sunday against Sewanee at 1:00 PM ET.
