Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest to Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. - Berry Women's Basketball fell to a familiar opponent that they defeated last weekend in The Cage, current SAA leader Millsaps College in today's contest. The Vikings are now 12-8 overall and 6-3 SAA.

A low scoring second quarter accompanied by the Majors getting to the foul like twenty more times than Berry resulted in a Southern Athletic Association loss for the team.

In the first four minutes of the game, the Vikings came out strong and looked to take the win over the SAA leader as they did last weekend at home. With an 11-4 run Berry held on to the lead until the Majors tied it at 11 with under three to go and pressed on to take the lead and end the first period with a four point advantage (17-13).

In the second period, a jumper and free throw would be all the Vikings could get to slide through the rim and Millsaps went on for a high 23-point quarter and push their lead up at half, 40-16.

The second half of the game was close with Berry winning 38-35 as Elly Callihan came to life and posted 14-points and 14 rebounds for the game, a new season high in rebounds for the sophomore.

It was hard for the Viking to recover from the second quarter, with each other their baskets being answered by the Majors and doubling Berry's points in the paint in the second half. Unable to climb back and limit their fouls, the Vikings suffered a tough loss to Millsaps.

The team will be back on the road next weekend at Rhodes and Hendrix for more SAA play.
