Conn College Tops Williams on Senior Day

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team ended its season on a high note, picking up a 65-58 victory over Williams College on Sunday afternoon at Luce Field House.

The Camels shot 39 percent en route to their highest point total in NESCAC play this season. Rebecca Oberman-Levine (Hamden, Conn.)—one of three seniors celebrated prior to tip-off—finished with 18 points, four rebounds, three assists and a block in her final collegiate game to lead the charge.

Conn got plenty of help from other sources. Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.) chipped in a career-high 15 points, Avery Burns (Orleans, Mass.) tallied 11 points and four assists, and Addi Hunter (Saint George, Vt.) recorded a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds. Mia Xerras (Charlotte, N.C.) also had a solid game with eight points and three steals.

Neither team led by more than seven in a match-up that was tightly-contested throughout. Conn got the early jump thanks to Xerras, who buried a three on the game's opening possession and then forced a turnover on the ensuing Williams inbounds play. The ball ended up with Donadio, who drove in for a layup to give the Camels a 5-0 lead just 21 seconds in.

Conn held the lead until the final minute of the half, when a jumper by Arianna Gerig gave the Ephs their first lead of the day at 34-33. Williams took the one-point advantage into the halftime intermission as Gerig collected 10 points in the half. Donadio led all scorers with 11 points at the break.

The Camels snatched the lead back thanks to back-to-back layups by Hunter and Xerras to start the second half. The lead changed hands four times in the third quarter, but a late flurry left the Ephs with their biggest advantage of the game at 51-45 heading to the fourth.

Conn took care of business in the final stanza, outscoring Williams by a 20-7 margin. The Camels netted the first 12 points of the period, with Oberman-Levine supplying six straight to put the hosts back on top for good.

Trailing by six, Williams made a late push to trim the deficit to one. Gerig did the heavy lifting by draining a three, getting a steal and converting a layup to make it a 59-58 game with 1:35 to go.

Conn scored the last six points of the contest to seal its first NESCAC victory of the season. Hunter drained four free throws in the final 41 seconds and also assisted on a back-door layup to Burns.

Gerig led Williams with 21 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds.

Prior to the game, the Camels honored Oberman-Levine, Aislinn McMahon (Andover, Mass.) and Hope Olson (Yarmouth, Maine) in a special Senior Day ceremony. McMahon made her first start of the season and finished with three rebounds and three steals in 13 minutes.

Conn College ends the season with an overall record of 6-17 (1-9 NESCAC).
