Millikin Women’s Basketball Picks up Road Victory

The 14th ranked Millikin University women's basketball team won its final road game of the regular season defeating Augustana College 64-53 in Rock Island, Illinois on Feb. 10.

 

Millikin never led in the first half tying the game twice. The Vikings lead 21-16 at the end of the first quarter and 33-28 at halftime. Millikin scored the first eight points of the second half to pull ahead 38-33 early in the third quarter. The Big Blue out scored Augustana 18-10 to each of the final two quarters to pull out the victory.

 

Millikin struggled from the field in the game making only 22-59 (37 percent) while connecting on 7-27 (26 percent) from three-point range. The Big Blue made 13-16 from the free throw line. Augustana shot 40 percent (20-50) from the field and went 3-15 from beyond the arc. The Vikings were 10-11 from the free throw line. Augustana dominated the glass 43-26. Millikin forced the Vikings into 32 turnovers scoring 36 points off the miscues.

 

Senior Sophie Darden led Millikin with her 13th double double of the season with 17 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals. Matayia Tellis added 11 points with three assists and three steals. Elyce Knudsen had 10 points and seven assists.

 

Corey Whitlock and Emma Berg led the Vikings with 15 points each.

 

Millikin improves to 19-4, 11-3 while Augustana goes to 12-12, 7-8.

The Big Blue remain in third place in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) standings one game behind the first place tie between Illinois Wesleyan University and Carroll University. Millikin hosts North Central College on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
