Second-Quarter Eruption Lifts Women's Basketball Past Ursinus, 58-43

COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The No. 10 Johns Hopkins women's basketball team kicked off another two-game road trip with a matchup against Ursinus Saturday afternoon, using an efficient second quarter to complete the regular-season sweep of the Bears, 58-43.

Greta Miller finished the afternoon with a team-high 13 points with Macie Feldman (11) and Michaela O'Neil (11) also cracking double figures. Miller and Feldman also eclipsed double digits in rebounds to secure their fifth and third double-doubles respectively. The duo also led the way as facilitators — Feldman finished with a game-high six assists with Miller adding four — while defensively it was Jadyn Murray tallying a team-best three steals.

After Feldman scored the game's opening bucket for Hopkins (18-1, 14-0 Centennial), Ursinus responded with a 7-2 run to jump in front 7-4. Neither side could find much on the offensive end for the remainder of the frame, with a layup from Layla Henderson and 1-2 trip to the line by Feldman sending the Blue Jays into the first break down 11-10.

The second quarter was all Hopkins, who shot 11-16 from the field and 3-6 from 3-point land to score 25 in the period, while Ursinus (11-8, 7-7 Centennial) was held to just four points on 17% shooting. After the Bears briefly retook the lead at 13-12, a Feldman jumper ignited a 23-2 run — including a 16-0 stretch in which Hopkins shot a perfect 7-7 — that would span the remainder of the quarter to turn a one-point deficit into a 20-point lead at the half.

The Blue Jays carried that momentum into the third where six different players found nylon in a 17-12 frame. The Bears scored the first four points of the frame, but a quick 8-2 response in the span of just under two minutes with buckets coming from Miller, Kara Milliken, O'Neil and Feldman made it a 22-point game. Ursinus attempted to chip away at the lead once again before Grace Soltes and Beth Corelli added themselves to the quarter's scoring column to give Hopkins its largest lead of the afternoon heading into the fourth at 52-27.

Two points from Henderson gave the Blue Jays a game-high 27-point lead 10 seconds into the final quarter before Ursinus used a steady flow of free throws over the final nine minutes, resulting in the 58-43 win.

Next up for Hopkins is a rematch with Gettysburg Wednesday, Jan. 31 with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
