William Paterson Women's Basketball Falls at Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (5-13, 3-8 NJAC) fell 87-56 at Rowan (9-9, 6-5 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game Jan. 20.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Pioneers led 12-7 with 3:34 on the clock in the first quarter after a 10-2 run spanned just over four minutes. William Paterson carried a two-point edge (16-14) into the second quarter before Rowan went on an 8-3 run to grab the advantage (22-19).
  • Both sides traded baskets until the Profs capped the first half on an 8-1 run to extend their lead to five (30-25) heading into the halftime break.
  • The Pioneers pulled to within three (35-32) with 7:07 remaining in the third quarter, but the Profs built an insurmountable lead after outscoring William Paterson, 25-9, over the final 6:49 of the frame to make it a 19-point game (60-41).
  • Rowan closed things out in the fourth quarter and secured the 87-56 home conference victory.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Senior Brianna Smith finished with a game-high 19 points to go with a team-high seven rebounds and four steals.
  • Freshman Mattison Chiera had 13 points and six boards.
  • Junior Jade Martinez tallied 10 points, three assists and two steals.
