Carroll Wins Sixth Consecutive Game

WHEATON, Ill. - Carroll's women's basketball team won their sixth consecutive game Wednesday night, tickling the twine to the tune of 59 percent (36-61) shooting, including 44 percent (4-9) from 3-point range, en route to an 87-62 victory at conference foe Wheaton (Ill.) College. The Pioneers never trailed in the contest, scoring nearly as many points in the paint (52) as Wheaton had all game (62).

Carroll (11-3, 4-1 CCIW) scored the game's first 10 points, which included a pair of buckets by Natalie Gricius and Natalie Palzkill. The Pioneers would continue to lead by double-digits mid-way through the quarter until Wheaton (8-5, 1-3 CCIW) ended the period on a 12-4 run to cut the Pios' lead to two. The second quarter ended up being the difference in the game, as Carroll outscored the Thunder 26-6 in that period to take a 50-28 lead into halftime.

The second half was very tightly contested, with Carroll outscoring Wheaton 37-34 after halftime, but the damage was already done. The Pioneers forced 23 turnovers on the night, which they turned into 27 points. Carroll also turned in 15 fast-break points.

Gricius led the Pioneers with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, making her only 3-point attempt and all three of her free throws. Olivia Rangel added 19 points, four rebounds, and a game-high seven assists, while Emilie Wizner added 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Palzkill also chipped in with 12 points, four boards, and three assists.

Wheaton was led by Annika Richardson's 23 points. Annie Tate added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Rachel Brady scored six points off the bench.

The Pioneers will be back in action next Wednesday when they'll return home, as they'll try to go for number seven in a row in Van Male Fieldhouse against Elmhurst University at 7 p.m.
