William Paterson Women's Basketball Topped by Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (4-8, 2-4 NJAC) fell, 75-48, to Springfield (9-2, 0-0 NEWMAC) on the opening day of the Hampton Inn West Springfield/Naismith Classic Dec. 31.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Sophomore Renee Wells scored from inside the paint with 5:46 remaining in the second quarter to make it a two-point game (21-19). However, Springfield closed out the frame on a 16-4 run to carry a 37-23 advantage into the half.
  • The Pride maintained its double-digit lead the rest of the way en route to securing the 75-48 victory.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Wells finished with a team-high 14 points to go with four rebounds and a pair of steals.
  • Junior Jade Martinez logged 11 points and six boards.
  • Senior Brianna Smith recorded 11 points, three steals, two assists and a pair of rebounds.
