Anchorwomen Defeat Springfield, 53-40

Providence, R.I.—Junior guard Madison Medbury (Scituate, R.I.) grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds, scored nine points and dished out five assists as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team defeated Springfield, 53-40, at The Murray Center on Monday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Fifth-year forward Izabelle Booth (Newport, R.I.) hit two three-pointers, while Medbury also hit one from downtown, to help put the Anchorwomen ahead by 12, 23-11, after the first quarter.
 
• The second quarter was a defensive slugfest, with the two teams combining for 12 points. RIC would still enter halftime with a double-digit, 31-15, lead.
 
• The Anchorwomen defense smothered the Pride, limiting them to just eight points in the third quarter, but also struggled to get going offensively.
 
• A late offensive push from Springfield was not enough to overcome the large RIC advantage.
 
• The Anchorwomen were sluggish on both ends of the floor, tying their season-low in points and committing a season-high 14 turnovers. The Pride were limited to their season-low in points, while also committing a season-high 18 turnovers.
 
• Booth scored a game-high 13 points.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to take on Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday, Dec. 20 (1 p.m.).
