Conn College Cruises Past Mount Holyoke

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team coasted to a 75-33 victory over Mount Holyoke College on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference clash at Luce Field House.

The Camels were white hot at the start, connecting on their first nine field goal attempts en route to 26 points in the quarter. Conn never trailed and posted its largest margin of the victory of the season. 

Conn spread the wealth on the offensive end and had 12 players find the scoring column, with Mia Xerras (Charlotte, N.C.) and Catherine Cole (Lebanon, N.H.) leading the way with nine points each. Avery Burns (Orleans, Mass.) and Aislinn McMahon (Andover, Mass.) came off the bench to add eight points apiece, and Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.) chipped in seven points and seven rebounds.

Mount Holyoke's Emma Goff led all scorers with 11 points and added a game-high 15 rebounds. 

The Camels came out ready to play in their final home game before the exam break. In the opening 4:46 of the game, the hosts went 9-for-9 and raced out to a 21-6 advantage. Xerras and Cole each contributed seven points to key the run, and each drilled a three-pointer during the spurt. Conn finished the period with 26 points, its highest point total in a first quarter this season.

The Camels widened the gap in the second quarter, as Mount Holyoke didn't hit double digits until midway through the period. Conn led 42-17 at the break, with Xerras netting all nine of her points in the first half to lead all scorers. 

Conn continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring the Lyons in both the third and fourth quarters. McMahon recorded all eight of her points in the second stanza pace the Camels on the offensive end.

Conn forced a total of 26 turnovers and outscored Mount Holyoke 20-0 in transition. The Camels shot 44 percent for the game and were a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.

Conn College (4-7 overall) will next play at St. Joseph's University (Long Island) on Friday, December 29 at 3:00 p.m.
