Allyn Nets 17 as WPI Falls at Bowdoin

Brunswick, ME --- The WPI women's basketball team dropped a 77-53 game on the road at Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers fall to 5-4 overall, while the Polar Bears improve to 7-1 on the season. 

Emmy Allyn (Rutland, MA) led the Engineers with 17 points, connected on 5-of-5 from long range, the second game of her career with five threes. Adrianna Niles (Tewksbury, MA) had nine points, while Ava Giansiracusa (Wethersfield, CT) finished with eight points and six rebounds. Alice Kelly (Wethersfield, CT) chipped in with five points and a team-high eight rebounds. 

Four players finished in double figures for Bowdoin, led by Megan Tan (Belmont, MA)'s game-high 19 points and four assists. Carly Davey (Westford, MA) added 18 points and four assists, while Sydney Jones (Chestnut Hill, MA) notched 10 points and seven rebounds. Callie Godfrey (Cheshire, CT) rounded out the stat sheet with 10 points, five boards, four steals, and two blocks. 

Bowdoin opened the game on a 9-2 run, but Allyn nailed a three and McMorrow added a jumper to make it a two-point game (9-7) midway through the first. The Polar Bears responded with a 12-0 run, however, pushing the lead to 21-7 with 1:27 to play. WPI scored the final bucket of the quarter, a three from Santorelli, making it 21-10 after one. 

A 6-2 surge for WPI opened the second quarter, as the Engineers cut it to 23-16 on back-to-back threes from Giansiracusa. Another Bowdoin run, this one 12-2, put the hosts back up 35-18. The Polar Bears led by as many as 20 in the frame, before a Niles three cut it to 41-23 at the half. 

Bowdoin continued to roll in the second half, out-scoring the Engineers 19-9 in the third quarter. WPI scored the first points of the quarter, but another extended run from the Polar Bears made it 52-25. The Engineers were unable to score back-to-back buckets the rest of the frame, as Bowdoin went up 60-32 after three. 

In the fourth, WPI opened on a 14-6 run, as Allyn racked up nine early points to cut it to 66-45. That was as close as the Engineers would get, however, as Bowdoin finished out the 77-53 win. 

The Engineers are off until December 29 when they host the WPI Holiday Classic, beginning with a 4pm match-up against William Smith (NY). Bowdoin also returns to action on December 29, playing in the Music City Classic in Nashville, TN against Kenyon (OH).
