Redlands Women's Basketball lose their SCIAC home opener

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (3-4, 0-1) lost their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener to California Lutheran University (CLU) by nine, 66-57, inside Currier Gym Saturday evening.

The Bulldogs allowed the first seven points of the game in less than 90 seconds, but Colbi Zorich would score the next four points and Avery Shiring made a jumper as they got within one, 7-6. That one-point margin was the closest Redlands got the rest of the first quarter as they trailed by seven, 20-13, after 10 minutes.

Redlands started the second with the first six points thanks to jumpers by Aliyah Anderson and Zorich and a Nataly Bravo assisted layup by AJ Wick put them down one, 20-19.

With just over four minutes remaining in the half Anderson made another jumper as she gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the game, 23-22. With the last three points of the half, Redlands led by five, 31-26, after trailing by seven points.

It was a tough third quarter as the Regals started to get things going on both ends as they were plus 11 points and tied the game at 48 with 33 seconds left in the quarter. The Bulldogs would maintain their lead heading into the final quarter thanks to Carly Hicks who made a free throw for a 49-48 advantage after 30 minutes.

Anderson scored the first point of the fourth and the Bulldogs defense held the Regals scoreless for nearly two minutes, but they would concede the lead, 51-50, with 8:19 on the clock and trailed the rest of the game as they lost to the Regals for the second-straight time.

Zorich had a big game with a career-high 24 points (8-14 FG, 8-10 FT). Anderson and Wick each finished with 13 points as 50 of their 57 points came from those three.

The Bulldogs will go on the road to face Chapman University next Saturday, December 9 at 4:00 p.m. as they look to win their seven-straight against the Panthers.
