Redlands Women's Basketball bounces back with 41-point win over Concordia Chicago

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (2-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 41-point blowout win, 89-48, over Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Saturday evening.

It was a competitive opening as the Bulldogs and Cougars were tied at two, four, 11, and 14. Leila Hosn and Carly Hicks each had five points during the run. Over the final 1:45 of the first the Bulldogs scored the final six points thanks to a jumper by Avery Shiring and Hosn followed by Leaya McKinney scoring in the paint off an Aliyah Anderson assist.

The Bulldogs opened the second quarter with the first 11 points as they grew their lead to 17, 31-14. Hicks converted on the fastbreak and had an assist while AJ Wick finished in the paint off an offensive rebound for her first points.

Redlands' defense would only allow five points the entire second quarter as they took a 21-point lead into the break, 40-19. Colbi Zorich scored five points while Keyden Sanders added four points over the final 3:50.

The Bulldog dominance continued to start the third quarter as Zorich scored in the paint and Anderson was assisted by Wick for a layup as they led by 25, 44-19. A 6-0 run to end the quarter made it a 41-point game after only 30 minutes.

The lead was as large as 44 points in the final quarter before the final minutes ticked off the clock in the win.

Wick tied for a game-high with 13 points while Sanders, Shiring, Hosn, and Hicks also scored in double figures. Wick and Zorich each grabbed eight rebounds while Anderson and Sanders chipped in four assists apiece.

The Bulldogs will now head on the road as they go to Santa Cruz for the UC Santa Cruz Tip-Off this coming Friday and Saturday, November 24 and 25 as they play Rivier University at 1:00 p.m. on Friday before playing Bethany College on Saturday, also at 1:00 p.m.
