Jostens Trophy Finalist Announcement

SALEM, Va. --
The Rotary Club of Salem announced on Wednesday that Allegheny College sophomore Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone) was selected as one of 10 women's finalists for the 2023 Jostens Trophy.

Lauer is the first-ever Allegheny student-athlete chosen as a finalist for the prestigious award.

The Jostens Trophy honors - one for men's basketball and one for women's basketball - are national awards created by the Rotary Club of Salem and sponsored by Jostens, Inc., to recognize the most outstanding men's and women's Division III basketball players of the year. The awards focus on three major criteria: basketball ability, academic prowess, and service to one's surrounding communities. The Jostens Trophy models the Rotary International motto of "Service Above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of a well-rounded Division III student-athlete. The 2023 season marks the 25th time the Jostens Trophy honors will be awarded.

The Jostens Trophy National Selection Committee will review the finalists and anticipates announcing the winners on Thursday, March 23.

The top scorer in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) during the 2022-23 campaign, Lauer helped the Gators punch their ticket to the PAC Championship Tournament in their first season in the conference. A First-Team All-PAC honoree, she ranked first in the conference in points (479), points per game (18.4), field goals (193), and free-throw percentage (81.2%).

Academically, Lauer is a Biology major and a Distinguished Alden Scholar. She's also a member of Allegheny's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). In the community, Lauer has volunteered for various programs, including Active Aging, Akron Hope's Adopt-a-Classroom initiative, French Creek Cleanup, Meadville's Children and Youth Services, Precious Paws Animal Rescue, Relay For Life, and Special Olympics.
