Spartans Stymied by Yellow Jackets on Wednesday

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Manchester University women's basketball team fell to visiting Defiance College 90-63 on Wednesday, February 1 in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.

Taylor Steinbrunner led the Yellow Jackets with 31 points and 6 rebounds. Taylor Day added 20 points, while Kalista Friday chipped in 12 points for Defiance. Nicole Sims finished the night with a team-high 6 assists. As a team, the Yellow Jackets shot 59.0% from the field, with 46 points in the paint, and 63.2% from the free throw line. With the win, Defiance improved to 7-13, 2-10 HCAC. 

First year Hailee Kline (Huntington, Ind., Blackhawk Christian) tallied 9 points during Wednesday's contest. Fellow first year Mia Shields (Arcadia, Ind., Hamilton Heights) and Maddi Smith (Kewanna, Ind., Caston) added 8 points apiece for the Black and Gold. Ally Graber and Madison Stamm (Fortville, Ind., Anderson Prep) also added 7 points each. The Spartans collected 10 steals against the Yellow Jackets, with ShieldsSmith, and Graber collecting 2 steals apiece. As a team, Manchester shot 32.8% from the field and 64.0% from the free throw line. 

Up next, Manchester men's and women's basketball will host Mount St. Joseph in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on Saturday, February 4. Saturday's game will be a Gray Out to support brain tumor/cancer awareness. A flyer with more information for Saturday's Gray Out games can be found here.
