Millikin Women’s Basketball Wins CCIW Regular Season Title

The 23rd ranked Millikin women's basketball team dominated Elmhurst University 101-28 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois on February 15. The victory gives Millikin the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Regular Season Title outright and locks in the Big Blue as the number one seed and host of the CCIW Post Season Tournament on February 24-25.

 

Millikin controlled the game from the start jumping out to a 15-0 advantage. The Big Blue led 37-4 after the end of the first quarter. Millikin shot 63.6 percent (14-22) from the field in the first quarter including making 4-5 (80 percent) from three-point range. Millikin lead 60-18 at halftime.

 

Millikin shot 53 percent (39-73) from the field for the game and made 11-20 (55 percent) from beyond the arc. The Big Blue held Elmhurst to 9-49 (18 percent) from the field and forced the Bluejays to commit 27 turnovers. Millikin won the rebounding battle 49-22. Millikin scored 42 points off turnovers and dominated the paint 52-15. The Big Blue scored 57 points from its bench.

 

Five Millikin players scored in double figures led by Elyce Knudsen with 20 points and five assists. Sarah Isaf added 17 points followed by Bailey Coffman and Chelsea McCullum each with 15. Freshman Alana Terry scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Abby Ratsch and Terry shared the team lead for rebounds at seven.

 

Payton Schmidt led Elmhurst with eight points followed by Katie Matrise with seven.

 

Millikin is now 20-4, 14-1 and will conclude the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Carroll University.

 

Millikin will host the CCIW Tournament's final four on February 24-25 with games starting at 5 p.m. on Friday. The Big Blue will play at 7 p.m. on Friday. The tournament championship game will be February 25 at 7 p.m.
