Hevelow and Fitzpatrick Score 20 to Lead LVC Women’s Basketball at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. – Riley Hevelow and Kate Fitzpatrick combined for 40 points to lead the Lebanon Valley women's basketball team to a big 69-53 victory at Hood College on Wednesday evening in Frederick, Maryland.

The Dutchmen (11-9, 7-4 MAC Commonwealth) traded buckets with the Blazers (4-16, 1-11 MAC Commonwealth) over the first couple of minutes with Fitzpatrick knocking down her first three shots on the game. Hevelow scored the next three points to give the Dutchmen a 9-4 lead with just over six to go in the opening quarter. Hood used a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 11-9. The teams traded scores for the rest of the quarter and Hood led 15-14 going into the second quarter. The game remained a back-and-forth battle through the first five minutes of the second quarter with the teams trading leads. Samya Santiague and Hevelow hit back-to-back jumpers to give LVC a 27-22 lead halfway through the quarter. That was as large as the Dutchmen would lead until Hevelow scored in the paint right before the half to make it 33-26 in favor of Lebanon Valley.

Hood scored the first bucket of the second half and then the Dutchmen pulled away with a 7-0 run to go up by 12. The Blazers were able to cut the lead down to eight before Elise Balmer gave the Dutchmen back a double-digit lead with a jumper at the halfway mark of the quarter. Allison Bimmer knocked down a three to give LVC a 46-33 lead with 3:46 on the clock. The Blazers equaled the Dutchmen point total for the rest of the quarter and the fourth quarter began with LVC leading 54-41. Kailey Eckhart hit a three, Bimmer scored in the paint, and then Fitzpatrick scored on a fastbreak pullup jumper giving the Dutchmen a 62-41 advantage with just under seven minutes to play. Santiague gave LVC their biggest lead of the game with a steal and layup at 66-43. The Blazers managed to cut the lead down to 16 in the final five minutes.

 Inside the Box Score

  • Hevelow scored 20 points for the second time this season against Hood. She just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
  • Fitzpatrick also had 20 points and added five rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. This was her seventh game this year scoring 20 or more points.
  • Santiague was the third Dutchman in double figures with 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
  • Bimmer and Eckhart had seven points each.
  • The Dutchmen shot 48.2 percent from the field which is their second-best shooting percentage this season.
