GORHAM, Maine --  Senior All-America forward Anna Barry (Andover) recorded a double-double in the first half that paced the Eastern Connecticut State University women's basketball team to a ten-point halftime lead and the Warriors made it eight wins in the last nine games with a 62-45 Little East Conference victory over the University of Southern Maine Thursday evening at Hill Gymnasium.

Barry connected on her first nine shots through the first 29 minutes and finished 11 of 12 from the floor and with her tenth double-double of the season. She totaled season-highs of 24 points and seven blocked shots and fell two shy of her career-high of 22 rebounds, set earlier this season.

With the win, Eastern (12-4, 6-1 LEC) moved a half-game ahead of idle University of Massachusetts Dartmouth into sole possession of second place in the conference -- a half-game behind Rhode Island College (13-2, 6-0 LEC). Southern Maine (4-9, 2-4 LEC) has lost six of its last eight following its seventh straight loss to Eastern in the series.

It marked the eighth time this year (third straight) that the Warriors have kept their opponent from reaching 50 points.

In staking Eastern to its ten-point, 29-19 halftime lead, Barry had 13 points (6-of-6 FG), 14 rebounds and three blocked shots over the first 20 minutes. Eastern snapped a tie four minutes into the game by outscoring the Huskies, 18-2 over ten minutes to build a 16-point, 26-10 lead four minutes into the  second quarter. Barry collected five of those points and senior guards Jenna Serrantino (Cromwell) and Jaclyn Santella (Hebron) nailed back-to-back three-pointers – their only ones of the game -- that capped a 14-0 run and made it a 16-point margin.

Barry hit a free throw and stole the ball and scored to open the fourth quarter that improved Eastern's lead to 20, 50-30. The Huskies got as close as 12 points when freshman Vanessa Vaughan (team-high 17 points) scored inside with four minutes left, but Eastern got four consecutive buckets in the paint from Barry, sophomores Kya Mayo (Middletown) and Taylor Salato (East Haven) and junior Cara McGettigan (Southbury) to re-gain its 20-point advantage.

Serrantino followed Barry with ten points and grabbed four rebounds while senior forward Mariah Dunn (Meriden) had eight points and five rebounds.

Eastern hosts Western Connecticut State University (10-3, 3-2 LEC) Wednesday at 5 p.m. in a conference game. The Wolves host Southern Maine Saturday.
