BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Captains finally trailed in a game this season, for 12 seconds. Christopher Newport fell behind Bridgewater College, 6-5, before a three-pointer by Katy Rader on the next possession flipped the scoreboard and CNU never trailed again in a 78-50 win at previously unbeaten Bridgewater College (5-1).

Nationally-ranked Christopher Newport closed the opening quarter on a 16-3 run to take control of the matchup against the Eagles, improving to 7-0 on the season. Along the way, Anaya Simmons collected her second straight double-double and Sondra Fan also finished in double figures with a season-high 16 points.

With her third made triple of the night, Christopher Newport senior Sondra Fan slid into second all-time in made three-pointers in a career, topping former teammate Jessica Foster and 90's sharpshooter Dana Edwards (154). Adding to her current total of 157 the rest of the way, she will finish her career second to only the greatest Division III three-point shooter of all-time in CNU legend Chelsie Schweers, who finished with a division record 415 treys.

Long range shooting proved to be an asset in the first half for the Captains, who knocked down the first five from beyond the arc. With the fifth, the first of the night for Fan with 6:19 to go in the second quarter, the Captains took a 20-point lead, 39-19. The advantage would build to as many as 30 in the game, but Bridgewater battled to keep the margin in the 20's the rest of the contest.

It was the Captains' suffocating defense that led the way in the road victory, forcing 33 turnovers with 18 steals in the game. Rader led all CNU players with a career-high six thefts while Simmons continued to impress on both ends of the floor with five steals of her own.

Simmons was a force on the glass, collecting 12 rebounds after tying her career-high with 13 in CNU's last game against Lynchburg. She finished with a game-high 18 points and 12 boards to go with the five steals and added a pair of assists for good measure. Of her 12 rebounds, seven came on the offensive end, as CNU collected 18 O-boards that led to 12 second-chance points in the game. She is the first Captain to record back-to-back double-doubles since Sam Porter on January 21 and 25, 2017.

CNU took a 47-28 advantage into the locker room and built the lead to 29 half-way through the third quarter after a three-pointer by Lauren Fortescue and a couple of free-throws from Camille Malagar. Early in the fourth quarter, an elbow jumper from Gabbi San Diego, steal by Rader, and terrific finish on the run-out by Fan catching over her shoulder for two extended the lead to a game-high 30 at 76-46.

Sophomore forward Hannah Kaloi added a nice line with six rebounds and five points while Alivia Giles led the reserves with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting in just 10 minutes of action. She hauled in three rebounds as she helped spell Simmons up front.

Christopher Newport's record remains pristine and will look to keep it that way on Saturday, December 3 as the Captains travel to long-time conference rival Greensboro College for a 2:00 p.m. tip.
