WBB: George, Panthers tame Thomas

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's basketball team defeated Thomas College, 57-44, in a non-conference game in Foley Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.

The Panthers led for the entire game, riding a double-digit lead in the first quarter through the remainder of the contest. Thomas kept nipping at the heels of the Panthers, but key defensive stops and timely baskets helped PSU keep the Terriers at arm's length.

Freshman Sophie George (Meredith, N.H.) led the way yet again scoring 17 points for the Panthers. Junior Lauren Keller (Fort Morgan, Colo.) scored 11 points of her own, while senior Sarah Sweet (Narragansett, R.I.) contributed eight points in only ten minutes of action.

Plymouth State improves to 3-2 on the season, while the Terriers dip to 0-7.

• The Panthers opened with the game's first seven points to lead 7-0 with 6:50 left in the first quarter.
• PSU opened its first double-digit advantage at 13-3 with 3:09 remaining in the first.
• Thomas was held to one field goal in the frame as Plymouth State closed out the quarter with an 18-5 lead.
• The Panthers outscored Thomas by a 15-13 margin in the second to extend the advantage to 33-15 at the half.
• The Terriers came out fast, scoring the first five points of the third to cut the lead back to ten, 33-23, with 7:53 left in the quarter.
• Thomas limited Plymouth State to only seven third quarter points, but the hosts maintained a 40-28 advantage after three.
• PSU used an 8-0 run to open the game to 48-30 with 8:20 left in the fourth.
• Plymouth State stayed hot, scoring 17 points in the high-scoring frame to close out the win.
