DANBURY, Conn. -- The Mitchell College women's basketball team dropped a 64-57 decision at Western Connecticut State University on Tuesday night in non-conference action at Feldman Arena.

Senior forward Amina Wiley (New Rochelle, N.Y.) led the Mariners, posting her second double-double of the season by scoring 23 points and grabbing 17 rebounds, both game-high figures. Junior Yasmine Santos (Pawtucket, R.I.) joined Willey in double-figures with 14 points of her own. Santos added seven rebounds for Mitchell, while seniors Dede Stevenson (Hartford, Conn.) and Sam McKenna each added seven points in the loss, which snapped the Mariners two-game winning streak.

The Wolves led the entire way, jumping out to a 16-8 advantage after the opening quarter, before breaking the game open by winning the second quarter 22-8. Ever resilient, the Mariners battled back, starting off the second half with a pair of free throws by Stevenson and going on to edge WestConn 12-10 in the frame.

Trailing by 20 heading into the final quarter, the Mariners continued their strong half, outscoring the Wolves by 13 over the final 10 minutes to trim the final deficit to seven points.

The Mariners shot just 32.8% from the field and were 0-11 from three-point range, yet nearly matched the Wolves in the rebounding department, grabbing 43 to WestConn's 44. Mitchell thrived in the paint, scoring 30 of their 57 points in that area, while forcing 22 turnovers which resulted in 17 points.

The Mariners (2-2) will return to the court following the Thanksgiving holiday, hosting Lasell University on Tuesday, November 29 at 6:00 pm in non-league action. Western Connecticut will also play next on Tuesday, November 29, when they play at the University of St. Joseph.
