NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Junior Morgan Morrison (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Country Day) scored 21 off the bench to lead the No. 16 Smith College basketball team to a 61-51 win over Framingham State in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament Friday evening in Ainsworth Gymnasium.

Smith advances to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history, while Framingham State, who earned the automatic bid after winning the MASCAC Conference, ends its season at 22-4. The Pioneers remain undefeated at home this year (14-0) and improve to 24-2 overall.

  • Morrison shot 9-of-14 from the field and grabbed 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the year
  • Katelyn Pickunka (Westhampton, Mass./Hampshire) finished with 11 points and eight rebounds
  • Jessie Ruffner (Rocklin, Calif./Rocklin) added eight points, nine rebounds and three assists
