La PLUME, Pa. – Lee Gordon (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Wood) hit 1,000 career points as the Giants charged past Cairn, 77-51, Wednesday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference play at the Gambal Athletic Center.
The senior hit the career milestone at the five-minute mark of the fourth period on what has been a common sight of her snatching a steal and running it back for a fast-break layup.
Gordon's accomplishment was the icing on the cake of a Giants' performance that started hot out the gates to outscore the Highlanders, 26-7, through the end of the first quarter. Keystone was 10 of 18 from the field and 6 of 9 from beyond the arc while Cairn shot at 20.0 percent (3 for 15) overall and 14.3 percent (1 of 7) from long range.
Keystone improved to 13-4 in the CSAC (16-7 overall) and is guaranteed to host a conference playoffs game next week. The Giants can secure the No. 2 seed with a win on Saturday.
Cairn dropped to 6-11 CSAC, 8-16 overall and is on the cusp of the CSAC Championships bubble.
Outstanding Performers
- Gordon finished with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and four steals. The senior became the 11th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.
- Mac Oribello (San Diego, Calif./Westview) nabbed her fourth career double-double with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, going 5 of 9 from downtown. The senior — who also surpassed 1,000 career points last week against Cairn (along with fellow senior Bella Lamonea (Glendora, Calif./South Hills)) — tallied 10 assists, four rebounds and two steals.
- Megan Weber (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) came off the bench and matched a career-high of 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting with three 3-pointers.
- Tamia Warner nearly had a double-double for the Highlanders, totaling 12 points and nine rebounds.
What's Next
- Keystone will wrap up the regular season by welcoming Wilson (9-7 CSAC, 10-12 overall) to the Gambal Athletic Center Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. tip-off. Seniors Oribello, Lamonea, Gordon and Abby Ritz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) will be honored prior to the game.
- A win against Wilson (or a Notre Dame of Maryland loss to Rosemont) would give the Giants the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in next week's CSAC Championships. Keystone would then host the second-lowest remaining seed next Wednesday.
- A loss to Wilson and a NDMU-win would have the two teams tied, but the Gators would own the tiebreaker due to splitting the regular season series with No. 1 Clarks Summit. Keystone would then have the No. 3 seed and host sixth-place Bryn Athyn/Valley Forge/Cairn/Rosemont on Monday.
- CSAC Championship game is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 26 at the highest seed's home gym.
- Cairn will close out its season Saturday against Saint Elizabeth (4-13 CSAC, 4-17 overall).
