GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Marymount University women's basketball team earned its fourth-straight win on Wednesday night at Gwynedd Mercy University in Atlantic East Conference play, 73-68.

The Saints were led by junior Symantha Shackelford's 18 points, while classmate Claire Smith registered a double-double on 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore Terra Dzambo poured in 17 points in the effort.

Gwynedd Mercy took a 10-4 lead to open the game, but the Saints roared back with an 11-1 run to close the first quarter. Layups from sophomore Chandler Eddleton and freshman Ava Achtyl cut the Griffins lead to two before Shackelford drained a three-pointer to take an 11-10 lead.

Marymount took a 15-11 edge into the second quarter, continuing to build on it in the opening minutes of the frame. Achtyl put in two more layups before Eddleton scored to build the lead to double-digits, 23-13.

The Saints held the lead through the remainder of the quarter for a 34-25 halftime lead. At the break, Achtyl led with eight points and six boards. As a team, the Saints were out-rebounding the Griffins 29-15.

Marymount continued to hold its lead to start the second half, pushing it to 42-31, on a Dzambo layup at the 6:59 mark. However, Gwynedd Mercy found its stride with a 17-7 run to close out the third and get back to within one point of the lead, 49-48.

Shackelford got in a rhythm in the fourth, opening the quarter with two-straight threes, followed by a jumper, to give the Saints some cushion, 57-50. Shackelford exploded for 13 points in the final quarter.

Dzambo hit from long range to regain a double-digit edge, 60-50, but the Griffins would not go away easily. They were able to get back to within four, but that is the closest they would get. Shackelford hit five free throws in the final two minutes to keep the Saints in control.

Marymount will travel to Neumann University for another Atlantic East contest on Saturday, January 22. The game is set for 1 p.m.
